The basics are a must: Brush teeth and tongue twice daily & floss! Floss after every meal. Do it.
Bad breath is usually due to poor oral health:
- Cavities
- Dry mouth
- Drink plenty of water
- Chew Trident or Ice Breakers gum
- Try ACT Dry Mouth Lozenges
- Use Biotene Toothpaste Dry Mouth
- Infections
- Oral hygiene
- After brushing & flossing, if you still have coffee, garlic, onion, or smoker’s breath try a mouth rinse like CloSYS Oral Health Rinse or SmartMouth 12 Hour Fresh Breath.
- Periodontal disease
Sometimes digestive/respiratory tract conditions may also lead to bad breath:
- Acid reflux
- Over-the-counter (OTC) Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec, or Zegerid may help prevent and reduce stomach acid problems.
- Allergic rhinitis
- Bronchitis
- Post-nasal drip
- There are a few OTC options for this: Nasacort, antihistamines (Allegra, Benadryl, Chlor-Trimeton, Claritin, or Zyrtec), Sudafed, or a combination of an antihistamine with Sudafed (Allegra D, Claritin D, or Zyrtec D)
- Sinusitis
- Tonsil stones
- CloSYS Oral Health Rinse may help eliminate that awful sulfur smell
- Find out what causes your tonsil stones (Maybe acid reflux, late night eating, or post-nasal drip)
Avoid tobacco!
Check with your dentist for dental or gum disease as a potential cause of bad breath.
